Today on my needles…

Oh, the drama!

It was a day for my Miya Shawl…

With six repeats to go…

I had just 8grams of yarn left. And I tried really hard to not panic…

But I was panicking. I really was.

At this point, I had a full 12 row repeat left plus the bind-off. I had concerns and I pulled up a bit on my tension to get a few extra inches…

And somehow… somehow…
I made it. With 3yards to spare.

Phew.

    • This bind-off was actually quite short as you decrease down to the original stitch count for it. But, yes, it was kind of a nail-biter. So ironic that I was trying very hard to relax during this knit because I tend to knit a little tight with lace. Apparently I relaxed a bit too much!

  1. White knuckle knitting is nerve wracking! I thought I heard a big sigh of relief down here in Illinois. Looking forward to seeing your shawl as an FO,

  2. Been there, done that, and with discontinued yarn – STRESSFUL!!! So glad yours worked out. Mine didn’t, but found the exact color and dye lot on Ravelry and the lady sent it to me out of the goodness of her heart. Turns out she lived in SWEDEN! I love knitters!!!

  3. I just ordered this kit and hope I don’t white knuckle it the whole time. It just makes me so nervous to order a “kit” and be worried.

    • Just check your gauge from time to time and you’ll be fine. On the thread they Carl from Bijou Basin Ranch mentioned that their test knitter had a ping-pong sized ball left, so clearly my gauge was a factor. I’m sure you’ll be fine!

  4. Kit makers and pattern writers always amaze me – how they can take a yarn and a gauge and get so close to perfect on yardage? I always worry that my gauge being a tiny bit off will mean the difference of making it with the prescribed yarn or needing more. So glad you made it, can’t wait to see the finished product!

And do tell me what you do with the left over bits? Too small to use, to good to toss?

    • I’m told the test knitter had a ping-pong sized ball left over, so clearly my gauge was a big factor. Hilariously, usually I tend to be pretty tight with my gauge on shawls so I was purposely trying to chillax with this one. Apparently, I relaxed a bit too much!

You know… I think I’m going to write a blog post on what I do with my leftover bits! Stay tuned…
